She was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania on August 31, 1927, to Melvin C. Barr and Katherine F. (Brunner) Barr.
She was married to Alfred A. DeLong for 63 years until his death in 2009. They moved to Colorado in 1956, and to Grand Junction in 1958.
Katie taught for Mesa County Schools for 20 years and had led a number of travel tours throughout the world after her retirement. She volunteered in many organizations from the Red Cross to the Counsel for the Aging. Katie and Alfred were long-time members of the First Congregational Church in Grand Junction.
She is survived by two brothers: John (Vickie) Barr and Rodger (Cheryl) Barr; one sister, Carol Fleck; three daughters: Renee D. Gampon, Claudia D. Pope (Edward) and Jane D. Schur (Rick); six grandchildren: Dario Gampon, Austin Pope (Raechel), Forrest Pope (Isabel), Rachel Schur-Wagner (Jason), Emilie Schur, and Elizabeth Schur; and seven great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service and celebration of life at the First Congregational Church in Grand Junction at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 7th.
