Once more the community has been caused to mourn on account of the sudden death of one of it's pioneer citizens. Yesterday about noon the word was passed around announcing the sudden death of Willoughby Merkel. Although Mr. Merkel has been in poor health for a number of years at the same time his sudden passing out came as a shock to his many friends. He has been a resident of Lisbon and vicinity since the early seventies having come here from Pennsylvania. He was a man who was brought up in the school of hard work and although handicapped by infirmities he was always cheerful and became a friend to all who learned to know him. When the rural routes were first established from the Lisbon post office he became one of the carriers and continued for many years, always steady and faithful. He will be missed by all.
