Ricky Dean Messer was born in Murphysboro, Illinois on September 1, 1962, the son of Emery Allen and Allietta Jane Clark Messer.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Robert Hackleman; five sisters, Georgia Williams of Hurst, Fay Johnson of Carbondale, Gale Keebler of Dubois, Vickie Ann Messer of Elkville, and Grace Messer of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and three brothers, Terry Grant Messer of Hurst, Emery Messer of Du Quoin and Allen Messer of Willisville.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
Ricky Dean Messer drowned in a strip mine pond south of Elkville on Sunday, July 15, 1979. He was 16 years old.
