Raymond J. "Wally" Ramirez, 73, a resident of Davenport, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 surrounded by his family at Select Specialty Hospital. Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 N. Main St, Davenport. Burial will take place in Holy Family Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. There will be additional visitation Saturday at the funeral home from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m.
Raymond Joseph Ramirez was born on March 14, 1940, one of thirteen children of Dionisio and Adelaida (Gutierrez) Ramirez. Wally was a member of St. Anthony's Church. He enjoyed the slot machines at the casino, dancing, listening to music of Los Reales and Vicente Fernandez. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren whom he adored taking photos with and hearing about all of their activities.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Those left to honor his memory include his children and their spouses: Adella (Amalio) Ramirez-Maldonado, Raymond (Jamie) Ramirez, both of Davenport, Leann Ramirez, Tommy Ramirez, of Andover, IA, Michael Ramirez, of Davenport; step-son, Alan Hopper of Davenport; grandchildren: Angelica, Antonio, Angel, Lauren, Brianna, Carlos, James, and Christian; 13 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Merle (Carmela) Ramirez, of Davenport, and many caring nieces and nephews.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Helen, Henry, Juanita, Manuel, Joseph, Micaela, Frank, Mary, Tony, two infant siblings; and two grandchildren, Raymond and Michael.
His daughter, Adella, wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Select Specialty Staff as well as Dr. Alsheikha for the care and compassion they showed to Wally, to the family and friends who were with Wally in his final days, and for all the messages and condolences on Facebook and phone calls she has received.
