Alvin grew up and spent his early days in Wapanucka, Oklahoma. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II from January 17, 1945 in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper until October 3, 1946.
He acquired his G.E.D. in Tehachapi, California where he worked as a 1st class repairman at Monolith Portland Cement Co.
Alvin retired in 1980 after thirty-four years of service and then moved to Allen, Oklahoma before moving to Pauls Valley in 2005. He loved to raise cattle and farming.
Alvin was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
