Enlisted on 6/18/1861 at Junction Store, Botetourt County, VA., he was mustered into Company K, 60th Virginia Infantry as 4th Corporal at White Sulphur Springs, WV.
Promoted 11/13 to 3rd Sergeant.
Listed Absent, Sick 12/5-30/1861 on Aug 31 to Dec 31, 1861 Roll.
Reduced to ranks, Private, on 4/29/1862.
Listed Absent, on Aug 31 to Dec 31, 1862 Roll through end of war as Detailed 7/22/1862 to work in Salt Petre/Nitre Cave, Botetourt County.
