Bernice Jefferson Ponton, 80, of Martinsville, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center, Martinsville.
She was born in Pittsylvania County on Aug. 5, 1924, to Wade Keen Jefferson and Annie Maude Wells Jefferson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin D. Ponton, and two sisters, Edith J. Nester and Lucille J. Fuller.
She graduated from Callands High School and attended Phillips School of Business in Lynchburg. She was a member of the Tabernacle Christian Church in Callands.
Surviving are two daughters, Christine Bullock of Martinsville and Elizabeth Mosley of Bassett; two sons, Marvin D. Ponton Jr. of Lynchburg and Jeff H. Ponton of Henry; one brother, Bill Jefferson of Rocky Mount; four granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services chapel. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home of Christine Bullock, 350 Dogwood Drive, Martinsville.
