Joseph A. Chantos, 69, of Georgetown, passed away at 7:58 PM on October 26, 2013 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. He was born on July 21, 1944 in Danville, the son of Joseph and Julia (Kochvar) Chantos. He married Judith Gocken on April 20, 1963 in Georgetown. She preceded him in death in 2007.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Andrew and three sisters, Julie, Mary and Annie.
He worked at Hyster as a tooling engineer for over 40 years, retiring in 2007. He was an extremely avid fisherman and would go at every opportunity he had. He was also deeply devoted to his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his church, St. Mary's in Westville. He loved watching the Chicago Bears every Sunday. Joseph was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Danville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville with Fr. Timothy Sauppe officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown with a rosary at 4:30 PM. Burial will take place at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Westville. Memorials can be made in Joseph's name to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
