Carleton, April 23—Joseph Al Doty, sr., 86, died at his home in Carleton at 8:25 this morning of cancer. The body was removed to the Baker funeral home where it will lie in state until services Sunday at 2:30 with the Rev. A. D. Burch of the Carleton Evangelical Church officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in the Carleton cemetery.
Mr. Doty was one of seven children of Lewis and Catherine Donothy Doty, pioneer settlers south of the village on Grafton road. he was born February 19, 1856. he had one son by his first wife, Sarah Haley of Berlin township, Gary Crooks, who lives in Hastings. A second wife, Mrs. Emma Simpson Anaby, Died in 1888; the two sons born to this union died in infancy. Mr. Doty married Miss Emma C. Warner August 4, 1889, in Monroe, and had two sons, Forest, who died in infancy and Joseph A. Doty, Jr., former county treasurer. Emma Warner Doty died September 22, 1926. After his last marriage Mr. Doty lived in the Doty homestead until 1890, and then moved to Carleton. He was in charge of the Standard Oil station in Carleton for 26 years before his retirement.
