Betty L. Aasland, 79, of Crosslake, died Friday, October 7, 2011 at her home. Betty's funeral will take place at 2 pm, Wednesday, October 12 at Crosslake Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry Quanbeck officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake. Betty was born March 18, 1932, in Rochester, MN, the daughter, of Emil and Emma (Rubal) Mundt. She was baptized (1932) and confirmed (1946) from Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester. She began her education in 1938 at Rural District 99, Haverhill, and Trinity Lutheran School before graduating from Rochester High School in 1950. She attended Rochester Junior College and then the University of Minnesota where she earned her Bachelors degree in Public Health (1955), her Masters Degrees in Education and Nursing (1957), and did PhD course work in Education. For over 35 years, Betty worked at Twin City hospitals as a Register Nurse and as Instructor of Nursing Training both at St. Mary's Junior College and at a number of other nursing programs. She was awarded an honorary doctorate from Jamestown College, Jamestown, ND. Betty enjoyed her career as a Registered Nurse and college professor. On June 30, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to Amil Aasland. The couple made their home in Brooklyn Center until 1994 when they retired in Crosslake. During their retirement, Betty and Amil enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Betty was committed to her faith and treasured her affiliation with Trinity Lutheran in Rochester, Cross of Glory Lutheran in Brooklyn Center, Victory Lutheran Church in Mpls, and Crosslake Lutheran. At Victory Lutheran, Betty taught Bethel Bible Study for several years. At Crosslake Lutheran, Betty served in many elected and volunteer roles, including the Jul Fest, Library, and WELCA boards. For years, Betty assisted vision-impaired persons; the Crosslake Lions honored her for this work. Betty liked to work on craft projects. And she was an energetic supporter of Camp Knutson. Betty is missed by her husband of 54 years, Amil; daughters: Bonnie (Steve Ertz) Aasland and Nancy (Mark) Wiggin; grandchildren: Joshua, Andrew, Howard, and Robert; great-grandchildren: JJ and Ava; nephews: Brian Mundt, Larry (Sharon) Collison, Lee Collison; and nieces: Christine (Donald) Deppe, DeLaura (Alan) Van Ravenswaay, Lisa Collison. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Al Mundt; all her aunts and uncles, and three brothers-in-law.
