Widow of Hon Thomas H Reed, at the home of her dtr Mrs H H Vreeland, NYC.
She was in her 87th yr, having been born in Milltown, January 20 1840, the dtr of Thomas Crosby and Caroline Carman Crosby. Her mother died in 1847 when Ann Augusta was only 7. The children of this marriage were Ann Augusta wife of Thomas Reed, Amanda, died in childhood; Seth a veteran of the Civil War and Regular Army; J Thorn Crosby who lost an arm in the Civil War and in honor of whom Crosby Post No 302 of this village is named; Byron Crosby who was killed and buried in 1862 on a southern battlefield. Thomas married 2ndly Lydia Pauline Crosby., who was more mother than stepmorther to her. Caroline Carman Crosby Wells, widow of the late Major Frank Wells, is the only surviving child of the second marriage.
Mrs Reeds husband, Thomas H Reed, was cashier of the Farmers and Drovers Bank of Somers, also School commissioner for Putnam Co, and member of Assembly.
In her early yrs sorrow came often to Mrs Reed, her dtyrs Pauline, Emma, Belle, and Julia (Mrs Johnson Shipman) and her son Edwin, were taken from her by death. One son Byron C Reed of Owensmouth California and 1 dtr Carrie Reed Vreeland, wife of Herbert H Vreeland of NYC survive her; also a half sister Mrs Wells.
