Ernst Stephan Schoen is my great great grandfather. His story is recorded in two books by his granddaughter Mathilde Georgine Schley(1864-1941), DEUTSCHAMERIKA (1935) and FRITZ, PAT,JULES UND HANK(1940).I based my NIU Master's thesis (1977) on the two books. In 1978 I visited the family home in Schoenwaldau near Hirschberg, and in 1989 visited the Schlesier cousins in Perth, Western Australia. I received artifacts from the Schoen emigrant trunk from the Mabel Schoenike estate, and translated same. The original artifacts have been returned to Germany to cousin Martin Berdau,Ph.D., for use in an ethnographic museum. The 1742 Old Lutheran prayerhouse of the Schoens has been restored and can be seen on YOUTUBE:Das Schoenwaldauer Bethaus in Lomnitz; The Rzasnik Prayer House in Lomnitz; Rzasnicki Dom Modlitwy w Lomnicy. I had the 1792 and 1842 50th & 100th anniversary jubilee booklets for this congregation which tells their story going back to the Middle Ages. Info to share [email protected]
