Dear Donna Sue,
Thank you for your entries on the Hillcrest cemetery in Gravette Arkansas. I've been trying to find my great-great grandparents Jenkins for a long time. I too enjoy genealogy very much!
Syl Jenkins is the abbreviation for Sylvester Jenkins, born 28 August 1821 in West Boston, Massachusetts. He died 28 January 1909 in Gravette, Arkansas. He served in the Union Army and was a member in the G.A.R. and the Odd Fellows. Jemima was his second wife and mother to last 9 of his 15 children. They also lived in Iowa and Minnesota, leaving behind adult children in both states.
I have traced my family tree back to the 13th century through Sylvester and am thrilled to finally have found him. His family comes down through Edward Jenkins who originally settled in Scituate Massachusetts around 1634. I am also thrilled to find birth and death dates for Jemima as I could not find them referenced anywhere. I am looking forward to finding out loads in reference to Jemima with those dates.
It took me a long time to find a reference to the current name of the cemetery where they are. The cemetery was originally named I.O.O.F Cemetery not Hillcrest. The original obits of Sylvester's death, which I have photocopies of only refer to the I.O.O.F. name. Since he was the oldest G.A.R. member living in Arkansas at the time of his death he made the headlines.
Maybe in the future I'll come across some photos and forward them on as well.
Thank you so much for all your work for making my family information available. My family will be excited about the new information!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Teri!!!
