Billie "Mimi" Evelyn Allen, 91, died mid-morning on October 23, 2013 at Athens Limestone Hospital in Athens, Alabama. Her family was at the hospital with her.
Services for Billie are Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home in Athens at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Born on April 5, 1922, in Greenville, Texas, Billie was the third of five children and the last surviving member of her generation. She married William “Bill” L. Allen of Abilene, Texas on February 14, 1941. After World War II, Billie and Bill raised two children, Dolores Jean and Brian Craig. Later in life, as health declined, the couple moved to the Athens area to be near their daughter, Dolores, who was able to serve as a caregiver for them. After her husband passed away, Billie was still a strong, supportive member of her family and the church until her death.
Personally, Billie was known by her siblings and friends as "Sarge," because of her take charge attitude and perseverance. Defying the odds, she underwent heart bypass and valve replacement surgery at the age of 86 and remained active to see four new great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Jean Kuettner and husband Howard of Athens, Alabama and by her son, Brain Craig Allen and his wife Kathey, of Dallas, Texas. Her grandchildren surviving are Christine Pipp-Butler and husband Tobin of Athens, Alabama, Melissa Hancock and husband Wesley of Locust Fork, Alabama, Craig Kuettner and his wife Melissa of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Grant Allen and his wife Kristi of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kimberlee Allen of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; Camille Weatherspoon and her husband Carl of Henderson, Tennessee, Seth, Mara, Breandan and Liam Butler of Athens, Alabama, Bradley, Joshua, and Dakota Hancock of Locust Fork, Alabama, Lilah Allen of Fort Worth, Texas and Olivia Kuettner of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
