Susan Artamisia "Missy" McDonald (1854-1892) was the daughter of William Thomas McDondald, a farmer and general store owner in Guntown, Lee, Mississippi, and his wife, Mary Beavers. After the American Civil War the McDonald clan, which in this instance, included several McDonald brothers, moved to Elmo in Kaufman County, Texas, as evidenced by the U.S. Census of 1870. At age 17, Missy married Marcus Irvin Dickerson, a young Georgia cavalry soldier who came to Texas after the Civil War. Marcus and Missy were parents of four boys--Robert Beaty Dickerson (1874-1941) William Thomas Dickerson (1876-1956), Marcus Irvin Dickerson, Jr. (1881-1891) and Walter Marshall Dickerson (1886-1958) and four girls--Sarah "Sallie" Henry Dickerson (1879-1946), Emma Valula Dickerson (1881-1963), Mayme Florence Dickerson (1884-1977), and Bertie Minnie Dickerson (1991-1892).
