In 1690 a force of men was gathered from Dorchester MA to invade Canada during what is often called the King William's War. This ill fated expedition suffered many deaths from disease, lack of provisions, the weather and the fighting. He was Ensign of Captain Withington's company and probably lost along with his brother Jazaniah and four Sumner cousins. He was the son of Roger and Mary (Josselyn) Sumner. He married Experience Blake on March 15,1684 and they had Samuel Jr and Seth.
