Mary first married Abraham Brandt on 30 Nov 1848 in Darke County, Ohio.
There is evidence that they had a daughter named Barbara who died on 19 Feb 1863 at the age of 15 years, 2 months, and 19 days per "Cemetery Inscriptions, Darke County, Ohio, Volume 1, 1964-1968, Short & Bowers." Her age would have put her birth exactly one year to the day prior to Abraham and Mary's marriage date, however, her headstone could have been misread or her inscribed age could have been incorrect. It is also possible she was born out of wedlock (and may have been purposely passed off as the daughter of Abraham's parents, John and Elizabeth, rather than as their granddaughter).
Per the publication, her stone read that she was the daughter of A. C. and Mary, as seen on 2 additional headstones in the cemetery for hard-to-read stones transcribed as "...ndia" and "Es......?," who were Abraham and Mary's daughters, Lydia and Hester.
Lydia E. appeared in the 1850 Census at the age of 6 months living with Mary and Mary's parents and siblings. Abraham Brandt did not appear with them, but was seen living with his parents, John and Elizabeth, his siblings and 2-year-old Barbara, as well.
Both Lydia and Hester were listed in the 1860 Census and appeared with Abraham, Mary, and their siblings:
Abraham (33), Mary (33), Lydia (8), Hester (6), Malinda (5), John (3) and Martha (1). Barbara, at the age of 13, was again seen living with her paternal grandmother in the 1860 Census.
Mary filed a claim for a Civil War widow's pension on 11 Jan 1865. On the same claim card appears a minor grandson's claim filed on 10 Dec 1868 - his name looks to be I. L. Eshelman. Abraham's Civil War records posted on Ancestry.com in part reads: Deserted at Camp Dennison Ohio; April 5 1864; Since Died and another record reads in part: Died at his home. Thus, Abraham died between 5 Apr 1864 and 11 Jan 1865.
In the 1880 Census, after Mary is remarried, another Brandt child is seen by the name of David who was born in about 1862, so Abraham and Mary had at least 7 known children, including Barbara due to her headstone inscription.
In 1870, young David Brandt, aged 8, is seen living with Isaac and Elizabeth Eshelman, 71 and 69 years of age, respectively.
Mary married second to Esley Robinet Brandon on 23 Nov 1876 in Darke County, Ohio. His wife, Eleanor, who passed away in 1875, was Mary's sister.
