THOMAS MILTON DILLARD was born in Laurens Co, SC Apr 12, 1826 to Lydia Duckett and Samuel Dillard. He died on July 15, 1876 after being thrown by a horse on a cattle drive, puncturing his lung.His grandparets were American Revolution heroes Capt James Dillard and Mary Ramage.He was married first to Mary Baker in Alabama. They had five children.After Mary's death he married Manerva Jane Jackson in Arkansas and they had 7 children: Margie Jane (Edwards), Elisa Isabelle (Johnson), Lydia Mary (Stokes), John Duckett, Jerry Clements, Minnie Catherine (Herring) and Thomas Milton Dillard Jr. He died two months before his youngest son was born.

Thomas Milton Dillard Joined the army in the fall of 1863. He was part of the 5th Arkansas Cavalry Company C under the command of Robert C. Newton (from Texas Confederate Widow's Pension Application). The 5th was fought in the battle at Shiloh and Corinth among others before becoming the 8th Arkansas Cavalry Regiment that fought in the battle of the Trans-Mississippi West. Known as the battle between the rivers. He left the army when the war ended in 1865.
