John Clayton Wright, 77, of Laurel, passed away on Oct. 19, 2013, at his family's farm.

Clay was born to Clayton and Rhea Wright on Dec. 1, 1935, in Lewistown. He spent most of his childhood in Billings while summering at a farm on Pryor Creek. After graduation from Billings Senior High School, Clay farmed all his adult life on the family farm outside of Molt. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Weber of Fairview, and they recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. In addition to farming, he worked several sugar beet campaigns as a chemist at the Great Western Sugar Factory.

In addition to his love of the land and his family, Clay will be remembered for his fondness of a good meal; his love of all animals, especially his numerous pet cats and dogs; and for being a passionate professional football fan. He was a very intelligent man who could work on an engine all day, would catch up on world events and politics during dinner and would end the day with literature. Dad was known for playing his music loudly, his terrible driving, colorful language, and he rarely met a card game, board game or crossword he didn't like. He especially looked forward to his yearly fishing trip in Cooke City with his childhood buddy, Jason Hoffman.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his two sons, Douglas (Edy) and David (Stacy); his daughter, Amy (Karl), his grandchildren, Kaylene, Annie, Kristen, Heather, Brad and Arlie; and his great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Gwendalyn. He is also survived by his sister, Rhea (John) Shoaff; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alice-Ann (Gail) Berry.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave., Billings. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to a local animal shelter or ZooMontana. Remembrances may be shared online at www.michelottisawyers.com.
