Mrs. Emma McFarland, 79, of 2135 N. Center St., Mesa, Ariz, died early Friday morning at her residence. Emma Falconer was born June 10, 1902, in Scottville, the daughter of the late David and Ruth (Bishop) Falconer. She grew up in Scottville and attended and graduated from Scottville High School in 1921. She then graduated from Western Michigan Teachers College receiving her teacher's certificate in 1922. She returned to Western Michigan University and received a degree in education in 196l. Mrs. McFarland had taught at several country schools throughout Mason County before becoming principal at Fountain School for several years. In later years she taught at Mason County Central Elementary School, retiring in 1973. She was married June 20, 1925 to Harry McFarland in Watervliet and he preceded her in death on June 10 1947. She was a member of the Scottville United Methodist Church and had made her home in Arizona for the past seven years. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Phyllis) Budzynski of Lafayette, Ind.; one son, Dr. Jack McFarland of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Lundquist of Scottville and Mrs. Grace Kleis of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Wallace Falconer of Tamarac Village and Tucson, Ariz.; Wallace Falconer of Tamarac Village and McAllen, Texas; David Falconer of Ludington and Phoenix, Ariz., and Lawrence Falconer of Scottville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Doris. The funeral for Mrs. McFarland will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Stephens Funeral Chapel, Scottville with the Rev. William Mathae of the Scottville United Methodist Church officiating. Internment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Scottville. The family will be at the funeral chapel to receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorials to the Scottville United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral chapel.
