Fountain School Principal Dies
Heart Attack Fatal While Fishing Alone Wednesday in Ford Lake.

FOUNTAIN - Harry McFarland 44, principal of Fountain school for 11 years, died of a heart attack while fishing alone in Ford Lake, Wedsnesday evening. When her husband did not return from his fishing trip Mrs. McFarland and a neighbor went to Ford lake to search for him. His anchored boat was found, containing tackle and othr equipment he had taken with him.

BODY RECOVERED
At dawn Sheriff Ed Anderson went to Ford lake from Ludington, but, before he had arrived McFarland's body ad been recovered by Jesse Falconer of Scottville, Mrs. McFarland's brother. Coroner Lloyd Stephens was summoned and the body was taken to Stephens chapel in Scottville where Dr. Ivan L. Hunt, on examination, found that a heart attack had caused death. Harry McFarland was born Dec 21, 1902, in Oceana County to Mr and Mrs Chesley McFarland. He was raised in Scottvile, attending school there and graduating from Scottville high school. He was graduated from Western Michigan College of Education at Kalamazoo. His efficiency and popularity as a teacher were recently attested when he was engaged to be Fountain school Principal for another year.

AT PICNIC
He also was popular in Amber Station district, where his wife recently concluded her fourth year as teacher. With his wife he attended the Amber Station school picnic Sunday, taking an active part in all of the day's events. Mr McFarland is survived by his widow, Emma Falconer McFarland: two daughters Mrs George Swelnis of Muskegon and Miss Phyllis McFarland of Fountain, who received her 10th grade diploma from her father last week: a son, Jack, at home; his parents, Mr and Mrs Chesley McFarland of Scottville, and two brothers, Don of Scottville and Ivors of Indiana. Mr. McFarland's death follows closely the sudden death in March of his father-in-law, David Falconer, longtime resident of Scottville. Funeral arrangements for Mr. McFarland have not been completed.
