Services for Louise Woolley, 87, retired teacher and Principal, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, Stephenville, with Rev. Howard Martin, Monty Stewart, and Gary Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Huckabay Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at Lacy Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Lacy Funeral Home.

Television might have had its "Our Miss Brooks," but Stephenville has been privileged to have "Our Mrs. Woolley." Louise Woolley retired in 1989 with 44 years of service in education. She worked for ESC Region 11 with the migrant program and was one of Stephenville's volunteers with the literacy program and ESL classes. She supervised student teachers from Tarleton State University and conducted classes for Hispanic students who wanted to take the GED. Mrs. Woolley dedicated her life to helping others, and she was loved for her cheerfulness and her spirit.

Louise Jones Woolley was born on October 4, 1926, in Huckabay, Texas, where she attended public school. She pursued higher education at John Tarleton Agricultural College, Texas Tech University and North Texas State University and earned a bachelors degree in homemaking, English and education. Postgraduate work was done at Howard Payne University and Tarleton State. Her certificates are numerous, including Secondary Permanent, Elementary Permanent, Professional Life, Supervision, Administration and Reading Specialist.

Mrs. Woolley taught in Alexander, Idalou, Girard, Huckabay and Stephenville in grades ranging from 3rd to 12th. She has taught it all, or it seems, with subjects including English and language arts, reading, social studies, physical education, math, science and typing. She was even the girls' and boys' varsity basketball coach for many years.

From 1964 to 1979, Mrs. Woolley designed and initiated the development reading program for seventh and eighth grades in Stephenville, and she later became the middle school assistant principal. For 17 years, she worked in the concession stand every Tuesday night during football games. In 1984, she was named principal of the new Intermediate School and was the recipient of the Educator of the Year Award prior to her retirement in May 1989.

Mrs. Woolley was a member of the SISD School Board from August 1998 - April 1999, The Red Hat Society, SISD Election Judge from 1992 - 96. She was president of the ATPE local unit in Stephenville in 1980-81 and was a member of the State Resolutions Committee in 1981-82. She has been active in Stephenville ATPE throughout its existence. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Stephenville. She was also a member of the Harris Methodist Auxiliary in which she volunteered 9,395 Hours. She joined the Auxiliary in 1989, was secretary from 1990-91, second vice-president from 1998-2007, first vice-president from 1992-96, president-elect from 1993-96, and president 1996-98. She retired in May of 2012.

Survivors include her sons, Ronald Woolley and wife, Cindy of Huckabay, TX, and Larry Woolley and wife Leslie of Grandview, TX; grandchildren, Randy Woolley of Huckabay, TX, Landi Campbell and husband, Josh of Amarillo, TX, and Loni Woolley of Grandview, TX; and one great granddaughter, Laynee Campbell of Amarillo, TX.
