Joneal Hickman Chappelear passed away October 21, 2013 at Gwinnett Medical Center.
Mrs. Chappelear was born July 26, 1919 in Franklin County. She was the daughter of the late James Sanford and Ossie Lunsford Hickman. She grew up in the community of Sandy Cross.
In 1939 she married Ralph Purcell Chappelear and they were married thirty six years at the time of his death.
Survivors include her daughter, Jerri Chappelear Whitlow and son, Richard Ralph Chappelear; son-in-law James Robert Whitlow; daughter-in-law, Susan Covert Chappelear; grandsons, Robert Hickman Whitlow, Stephen Thomas Whitlow, and Barry James Whitlow; daughter-in-law, Amanda Whitlow; and great grandchildren Devin, Corbin, and Noah Whitlow; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gilbert Hickman and sisters, Thelma Hickman Granger and Virginia Hickman Alewine.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lavonia. During her long residency in Lavonia she had been active in many community organizations including Lavonia Garden Club, Tugalo Art League, Lavonia Chamber of Commerce, and Red Hat Society.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 26 at the Franklin Memorial Gardens in Lavonia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Lavonia.
