Longview - Gary "G. W." Adams , 59, had a valiant fight with cancer and won, then later passed away February 8, 2012, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. His body was just too tired from his fight beating cancer.
He was born May 15, 1952, in Cooper, Texas, to Clyde and Lorene Adams. Growing up in Pecan Gap, Texas, he attended local schools and graduated from Fannindel High School. Gary then moved to Longview, where he lived the rest of his days.
All his life he loved to barbecue, competing and winning many competitions through the years. Gary owned and operated various BBQ restaurants during his adult life for 35 plus years, with the last one being Adams Rib at Lakeport.
He loved to fish and spent many fun-filled hours on Lake Cherokee with his family and friends. Gary also enjoyed bird hunting and was a devoted fan of the Tennessee Titans. He was a proud member of the NRA and past board member of EVFD.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Janie Adams; daughter, Leslie Patton and her husband, Trey; a son, Nick Clayton; daughters, Megan McKerry, Trae Adams and Annabelle Adams; granddaughter, Trinity Patton; grandson, Teagan Patton; two brothers, three sisters and best friend and brother-in-law, Joe Duncan.
There will be a celebration of Gary's life starting at 4 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012, at Radar Funeral Home of Longview.
