He was a submarine veteran, serving from 1940 to 1966. Not only was he a survivor of Pearl Harbor, he also shot the last torpedo of World War II. After retiring from the Navy, he was a Merchant Marine from which he also retired in the early 80's. He was active with the retired submarine veterans and a member of the American Cribbage Congress. He enjoyed his life to the fullest and was beloved by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Helen. He is survived by 2 sons, 2 daughters, one stepson, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Saturday, March 3, 2007, at Palms Funeral Home and Memory Park of Sarasota. Donations in his memory may be made to Tidwell Hospice and palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, or to Disabled Veterans.
