Daniel learned the tanning trade with his father until age 18. He then learned the trade of coach making. He worked as a coach maker in Ohio and upon returning to Chambersburg, he resumed working as a tanner. He retired in 1864, following the burning of Chambersburg by the Confedrerates.
Note: The grave monument shows he died on May 6; however, his obituary indicates a May 12 death date. The Cedar Grove spread sheet at the Franklin County Historical society also shows May 12 as the death date. I found no funeral home record for Daniel at the FCHS on 7 Nov. 2020.
