Patrick Joseph Healy, President of Lyon & Healy, and a Chicago resident thirty years, died April 3, at his apartments in the Kenwood Hotel, aged 65 years. He was born on a farm near Burnfort, Ireland on March 17, 1840 and came to the U.S. when ten years old. He attended public schools in Boston. While preparing for college he entered the employment of the Reed Co. in Boston as errand boy. After the Civil War, at age 24 yrs., Oliver Ditson sent for him and offered to give him charge, with George W. Lyon of the Chicago branch of the Ditson Co. He accepted and came to Chicago in May, 1864. Four months later the music house of Lyon & Healy was launched. In 1870, the establishment on the site of the present Chicago Opera House burned. The next store at 150 Clark street was destroyed in the Fire of 1871.
He married Miss Mary Griffith in 1863 and had three children--James, Raymond and Paul Healy. The mother died in 1872 and in 1882 he married to Frances Hannah. Seven children of the second marriage are now living. He was a member of the Union League Club and the Chicago Athletic Association and an early member of the Lake Geneva Country Club. The Funeral occured from Holy Angels Church to Calvary. Honorary pallbearers were John C. Haynes of Boston; John R. Walsh; William J. Onahan; Thomas Cratty; Charles H. Steinway of New York; and Platt P. Gibbs. -April 8, 1905
