Richard Butt
Richard Butt was born about 1670 in England, he arrived at the Massachusetts Colony in 1682, where he worked off his passage fare as an indentured servant, and on April 18, 1690, became a freeman, and was listed on the Colony tax roll. Richard Butt migrated to the Piscataway Confederacy in Maryland on the Potomac River. Prince George's County was formed in 1695.

The St. Barabas Church Register Queen Ann's Parish, Prince George's County recorded the following children of Richard and Mary Butt:

•On July 19, 1708 Richard Butt witnessed the will of Thomas Swearingen.
•In 1708, 206 1/4 acres of land was seized from Richard Butt.
•On October 26, 1767 Mary Medcaalf formerly relict of Richard Butt dec'd to grandsons Richard Butt and Thomas Butt land called "Batchelor's Delight" part of a larger tract called "Darnell's Grove". Signed Mary (M) Medcalf.

Last Will and Testament
First and fourmost I committ my soule to almighty God. Secondly I committ my bodie to the earth and my world debts first be full satisfied and paid. Thirdly to my eldest son Richard Butt the half of my land which is abought 103 acres to him and heirs of his bodie. Fourthly to my son Thomas Butt the other half of my land to be eqolly deviad between them bouth. If either son should dey before tha begat issue than the land shall fall to the nackest heire and never to be sold nor changad nor imbaselad away on any account but to go from heire to heir during life after his deare and loveing mothers deceased. Fifth lyign the rast of my goods and money and oll my parson isstaght to be devidad between the other four children Dinah Butt, Mary Butt, Samuel Butt, Nickolas Butt. Seckestly my will and plashar is that my dear and loveing wife sholl be the holle and chef eacksakettar of holl parsonatal isstaght. Sind, seld, and deleuerd in the prasants of us. Jno. The 1776 Muster rolls for the Montgomery County Militia Battalion. 5th Company, 5th class, included the names of Regenal Butt and Swearingen Butt.
Oath of Allegiance and Fidelity
On February 5, 1777, The General Assembly of Maryland, enacted a law which made it necessary to sign an Oath of Allegiance and Fidelity to the state of Maryland and the Cause of Freedom. Every free male, eighteen years and over was required to do so. The Oaths of Fidelity list of 1778 for Montgomery County, Maryland, included Samuel Butt, Richard Butt, Rignuld Butt, and Swearingen Butt.

Samuel Butt, age 74, died October 10, 1786, Montgomery County, Maryland.
In the name of God Amen. I Samuel Butt, of Montgomery County and State of Maryland, planter, being weak of body, but sound of memory blessed be God and divers causes moving thereunto, this 28th day of August in the year of our Lord God 1783, make publish and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Elizabeth all my Estate Real and Personal to her use to have during her natural life and after her decease it is my will and desire that it should be given manner and form following...I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary a cow and a calf and dest which is now in my possession. I likewise give and bequeath unto my daughter Keziah Butt now Harding, one cow and calf and three pounds currant money of Maryland to be paid by my executor. I also give and bequeath unto my son Hazel Butt one negro boy named Ben, also one bed, bedstead and furniture and one cow. I likewise give and bequeath unto my son Swearingen Butt, one cow. I likewise give and bequeath unto my son Richard Butt one cow. I give to my son Samuel Butt five shillings and no more. I also give to my daughter Ann Butt now Hawker five shillings and no more. I likewise give to my daughter Elizabeth Butt now Ray five shillings and no more and after the decease of my wife Elizabeth Butt I give the whole of my Estate Real and Personal and except what is herein before given, to be divided amoungsth my sons John Butt, Aron Butt, Regenal Butt, Basil Butt, Swearingen Butt and Hazel Butt and my daughters Mary Butt, Ruth Butt now Harding and Keziah Butt and I make and ordain my wife Elizabeth Butt my executix and my son Hazel Butt executor of this my last will and testament utterly revoking all other wills by me heretofore made in witness whereof I have this my last will and testament set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

The Last Will and Testament of Samuel Butt, was probated in the Montgomery County, Court House on September 6, 1786.

Mrs. Elizabeth (Swearington) Butt, age 81, died May 12, 1796, Montgomery County, Maryland.

•In 1787 Stephen Lephew sold Swearingen Butt 345 acres on both sides of the Little Rockhouse Creek.
•November 15, 1793, Thomas Bernard sold Swearingen Butt 37 acres on both sides of the Little Rockhouse Creek.
•Swearingen Butt posted bond for the marriage of his son Hazel Butt to Mary Sherridan on December 31, 1795.
•David Scales sold 146 acres to Hazel Butt on both sides of Piney Fork of Town Creek in 1799.
•Swearingen Butt bought 1 acre from the town trustees of the town of Wentsworth in 1799.
•Nancy Butt married John S. Barnard, Dec. 30, 1800, Rockingham County. Hazel Butt, bondsman.
•Hazel Butt sold to Daniel Taylor 146 acres on waters of Town Creek, 1802.
•In 1805, Swearingen Butt bought 123 acres on both sides of Rockhouse Branch from Amey Overby and 49 acres ajoining Swearingen Butts own land, from Russel Levin.
•Swearingen Butt sold 180 acres on the Little Rockhouse Creek to Amos Eliot in 1808. •Swearingen Butt sold 145 1/2 acres on the Little Rockhouse Creek to Jacob Riddell in 1818.

•In 1831 John S. Butt, State of Tennessee, Sumner County, acting as an attorney for Thompson Wright of Rockingham County North Carolina, sold 37 acres of land to Nathan Roach of Rockingham County North Carolina.
•In 1831 Mrs. Nancy (Wright) Butt, bought 157 acres of land, adjoining the lands of Pleasant Franklin Mayes, witnessed by her sons William A. Butt and Hazel G. Butt.

•Nancy Butt born August 10, 1831, Sumner County Tennessee. Miss Nancy Butt married John Hendricks Mayes Dec. 16, 1847. Widow Nancy Mayes married William S. Beal Feb. 13, 1898 in Greene Co. MO. Mrs. Nancy (Butt) Mayes Beal, died June 20, 1920, Oklahoma Co. OK.
