Georgia D. Scott was born June 16, 1907, in Needham Township, Ind. She married Nolan (Bud) Fateley on Aug. 8, 1924, and they lived in Franklin, Ind., for 57 years.

Georgia worked many years in the appraiser's office in Johnson County Courthouse in Franklin, Ind., and was deputy assessor when she retired in 1977.

Georgia and Nolan Fateley moved to Manhattan in June of 1981 to be near their son, William, a chemistry professor at Kansas State University, and his family. They lived on Edgerton in the Grandview neighborhood. Nolan passed away in February of 1983.

Georgia and her beloved Pekingnese, Buffy, moved to Homestead Assisted Living on Little Kitten Avenue in May of 1997. Buffy lived to the ripe old age of 14.

Georgia was a homemaker, an accomplished seamstress and terrific pie-maker as attested to by her daughter-in-law, Wanda Fateley, former city commissioner and mayor of Manhattan. She loved music and flowers and had quite a "green thumb." Her favorite song was "Lara's Theme" from Dr. Zhivago and her favorite flower was yellow pansies. She also enjoyed singing old time hymns.

Georgia's family hosted a reception at Homestead on June 18 in honor of her 99th birthday. She told her doctor many years ago that her goal was to live 100 years, but this year she began planning her 99th party because as she said, "everyone does a 100th birthday party." Georgia enjoyed her party and visiting with the many friends and former neighbors who attended.

In addition to her son, William Fateley, she is survived by a granddaughter and spouse, Leslie and Steve Kent, three grandsons and their spouses, Kevin and Beth Fateley, and Jonathan and Sheila Fateley, and Robin and Tanja Fateley, 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Parker of Shelbyville, Ind., and several nieces and nephews.
