HERBERT ARNO ANSORGE

Herbert A. Ansorge, age 89, formerly of 1826 Michigan Ave., Manitowoc, died
on Friday afternoon, April 18, 2008, at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation
Center.
Herbert was born on Aug. 19, 1918, in Newton, son of the late Ernst and Meta
(Schmidt) Ansorge. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was
involved in the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He received the
bronze Star, and was honorably discharged at the rank of Master Sergeant in
May of 1945. On March 14, 1945, he married the former Helen Holmes of Two
Rivers. He was employed by the Rahr Malting Company and later Anheuser-Busch
as a foreman for 37 years, until his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing and bowling. Herbert was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church,
the Masonic Lodge, Blue Lodge, Green Bay and Two Rivers Shriners Chapters. He
was a member of the Manitowoc City Council, and alderman of the ninth ward,
past president of the City Council, and member and past president of the Fire
and Police Commission. Herbert presented the key of the city of Manitowoc to
John F. Kennedy. Herbert was a member of the Manitowoc Marine Band, a youth
group leader for Wesley United Methodist Church, and a member of the Ecumenical
Brass. He was the Royal Arch Mason Man of the Year for Wisconsin. Herbert was
a member of the 1938 to 1939 Manitowoc city Bowling championship Team.
Survivors include his wife: Helen Ansorge, Manitowoc; four children, eight
grandchildren (private). Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also
survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Greg Gutman
and John Gutman; and eight brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday April 27, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Wesley
United Methodist Church, 1130 South 9th St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Pat Knutson will
officiate.
A Masonic memorial service will be held at 11:45 a.m. with visitation to follow
from noon until the time of service at 1 p.m. Military services will be accorded
by the VFW Otto Oas Post 659 of Manitowoc.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Herbert's name.
The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the Ansorge
family.
