U.S. Congressman. Born near Sherman, Texas, he graduated from Savoy College in 1890, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1892 and commenced to practice law in Indian Territory Purcell, Oklahoma. Moving to Indian Territory Ardmore, Oklahoma, he was appointed commissioner for the United States Court, serving (1893-97). He was a member of the Democratic Territorial committee (1896-1904), chairman of the Democratic Oklahoma State committee (1906, 1908) and served in the Oklahoma State Senate, (1910-14). In 1913, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-third Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until his death from heart failure at age 48.
