He served in the US Army during World War I, and was a member of the Eagle Lodge and the Operating Engineers Union #435. Before his retirement he was a heavy-duty construction worker.
Survivors included three daughters, Mrs. Georgianna Hick Perazzo, Mrs. Beryl Kirk Harris, and Mrs. Lola Kirk Vincent; three sons, Laurie Dee "Dutch", Jr, Jess Earl, and Charles "Chuck" Kirk; a sister, Mrs. Louise Dolley; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
