A former Revolutionary War drummer boy, Mr. Robinson's service to his country inspired a monument in this cemetery, located on Route 34B in Sherwood, New York. Born in what was then the British colony of Connecticut, he was 13 years old when he joined the 7th Massachusetts Regiment in 1776. He consequently saw action at the battles of Yorktown and Valley Forge, and eventually attained the rank of private. After the war Robinson settled in the town of Scipio, New York, where he and his wife, the former Eunice Rix, raised their 12 children. Predeceased by Mrs. Robinson in 1834, he died two years later at the age of 76. The monument to his memory was dedicated in 2005 at a ceremony attended by the local DAR chapter and several Robinson descendants. His original gravestone and that of his wife, which were preserved, were donated at this time to the Averill Historic Museum/ Ada Historical Society in Ada, Michigan, where they remain on display.
