William A. Bollinger, of York New Salem, departed this life unexpectedly, October 12, 2013, in York. He was the beloved husband of Helen D. (Wherley) Bollinger. Together they shared over 60 years of marriage.

Born in Hanover on January 26, 1933, he was the son of the late Efrim Bollinger and the late Alta (Wildasin) Bollinger.

Bill graduated from East Berlin High School.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.

Bill worked as a truck driver for over 40 years and retired from Consolidated Freightways after 36 years of employment.

Mr. Bollinger was a member of the 3 Million Mile Club, an award given to those without an accident while driving over 3 million miles. Bill was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles Fan. He was also a member of Windy Hill Senior Center in Spring Grove as well as a member of numerous clubs throughout York County.

In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by his sons, William A. Bollinger Jr. and wife, Lynn of Windsor, Bradley E. Bollinger and wife, Sue of West York, Craig A. Bollingerand wife, Tracy of Hanover; seven grandchildren; and brother, Edwin Bollinger and wife, Linda of Longwood FL.

He was predeceased by his brother, David Bollinger.

A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held October 16, 2013, at 12 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home, Spring Grove, with Rev. Brenda J. Feree officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York with military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held the 16th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
