He served in the United States Air Force during WW II, drove for Associated Transport Inc., a charter bus service, and was a starter/ranger at Countryside Golf course during his retirement.
He was a much beloved husband, daddy, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine V. Anderson; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. and Maria B. Anderson of Swansea, S.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis A. and Tom Hall, Katie A. and John Thornton of Roanoke; grandchildren, Kari H. and Chip Sullivan, of Greenville, S.C., Allison Thornton and Evan Thornton of Roanoke; great-granddaughter, Kalley Darrshan Sullivan of Greenville, S.C.; a brother, William L. Anderson of Boones Mill; sisters, Kay Gilreath and Mary Tate Kilby, both of Wilkes County, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted noon Tuesday, September 8, 1998 at Sherwood Memorial Park with the Rev. G. Mark Washington officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Memorial Donations, Carilion Corporate Office, designated Radiation/Oncology services, Cancer Center of Western Virginia, 1212 3rd. St. S.W., Roanoke, Va. Att: Rob Vaughn. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem.
