Milan (Mike) Skorich, age 82, died Sept. 9, 1997. Born Feb. 14, 1915, in Nashwauk, he was raised in Calumet. He was a graduate of Greenway High School and Itasca Junior College. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He served seven years in the Asiatic-Pacific and Philippine Campaigns.
Mike worked in the iron mines before moving with his family to Garrison, N.D. where he worked in building many of the dams and bridges in the surrounding area. He retired in 1977. He married Elsie Sievers in 1945; to this union six children were born.
Survivors include: his wife Elsie; six children, sons George and Mike; daughters Kathleen, Vicki, Donna, and Patty. He is also survived by a brother Dan of Marble and a sister Rose in Montana; nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Burial was in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Ore.
