Born September 20, 1928, at Egeria, she was the daughter of the late Tiberius and Emma (Reid) Reed.
Mrs. Adkins was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker and was Baptist by faith. She had been a resident of Amigo for the past 3 years and a former resident of Bud for 55 years.
In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband Bernie Adkins; one brother, Arnold Reed; two sisters, Claire Reed and Dicie Pearl Andrews; and two sons-in-law, Kenneth Forbes and Douglas McKinney.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Shirley Forbes of Herndon Heights and Pauline McKinney of Amigo; three sons, Bernard Adkins and his wife, Cathy, of Stephenson, Paul Adkins and his wife, Vada, of Kimball, and Willard Adkins of Amigo; two sisters, Virginia Beamon of Beckley and Corda Hill of Mullens; two brothers, Waldo Reed and his wife, June, of Alabama and Elza Reed and his wife, Patsy, of Beckley; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gilbert Dodson officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
Friends may call one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
