Born of Revolutionary stock, the first Belote came to this country with Lafayette's Expedition to fight for the colonies in their war for independence, remaining in the new country to make his home after the war.
William came to Medina about 1895. Marrying Adelaide Hine in 1906 they lived in Seattle a few years before moving to Bellevue in 1917. In 1930 he was listed as a cabinet maker in a Furniture Co.
After two weeks of serious illness he died of disease of the throat and other complications at his home on Bellevue Avenue. He was removed to the Garden of Rest in Sunset Hills Memorial Park with his brother James Isaac Belote and mother Ellen Josephine Belote. His wife Adelaide, who was the daughter of Civil War Vet William S Hine and his wife Lucy (Campbell) Hine, died in 1977 and is buried in Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery in Seattle.
William and Adelaide had twin sons, William and James. James became a noted author and educator and died in Hemet California in 1988. Together,James and William had written three books on World War II. One of these books, published in 1967, was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
