BARRERA, Matiana passed away peacefully October 16, 2002 in San Jose, CA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Manuel. She is survived by their children Frank (Donna) Barrera of Fremont, Antonio Barrera of San Jose, Rose Marie (Fred) Abitia of Atascadero, Rene (Dina) Barrera of Fresno, and Anna Maria Barrera of San Jose, 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.

Born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, Matiana moved with her family to Del Rio, Texas at the age of 12. She was united in marriage to Manuel in 1932. They moved to San Jose in 1942.

She was employed by Levi Strauss for over 20 years, followed by many years caring for foster children.

Her quiet demeanor, her patience, kindness, sense of humor, and the love she showered on her family are deeply missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Rosary to be held Sunday, Oct 20 at 6pm at OAK HILL CHAPEL OF THE ROSES in San Jose. Visitation will be from 9-9pm on Monday, Oct 21 at Oak Hill. Funeral Mass will be held on Tues, Oct 22 at 10am. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with interment immediately following at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Published in San Jose Mercury News on Oct. 19, 2002
