Robert Gordon Finley, son of Charles Wesley and Nellie Ann Miller Finley, was born, September 24, 1920 in Richland, Missouri. He departed this life, Wednesday, October 9, 2013, in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri at the age of ninety-three years and fifteen days.
On January 1, 1948 in Camdenton, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Margie Maxine Rogers and to this union two children were born. Together they shared sixty-five years of marriage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Nellie Finley; a son, Calvin Gordon Finley; a sister, Gertrude Johnson and four brothers, Russell, Stanton, Cecil and Claude Finley.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Finley of the home; a daughter, Linda Sweatt and husband John of Montreal, Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Karen Finley of Montreal, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Melissa Salsman and husband Brent, Randy Sweatt and wife Jamee, Nicole Stanley and husband Matt, Chris Finley and wife Jennifer, Matt Finley, Corey Finley and wife Angie and Chelsea Finley and friend Mason White; eight great-grandchildren, Jenna Sweatt, Luke Sweatt, Wade Salsman, Cole Finley, Caitlyn Finley, Madison Stanley, Isaac Russell and Katie Russell and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Bob was raised in Pulaski County. He worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps and later enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country proudly during World War II for five years. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the Lake of the Ozarks and was married. He was a carpenter doing residential construction of many years. He later began working for the Camdenton School District in maintenance and retired after many years of service.
Bob made a profession of faith and followed of the protestant faith.
He loved being outdoors and especially fishing. He and Margie went fishing just a few short weeks ago. He also enjoyed camping and hunting turkey and deer.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle and a caring neighbor and friend. He touched many lives and his memory will linger on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 14, 2013 in Allee-Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hugo Cemetery, Hugo. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., Monday in the funeral home.
