Widow of G. R. Balthrope Buried.
The remains of Mrs. Elizabeth V. Balthrope, widow of the late George R. Balthrope of Edina and mother of Robert S. Balthrope of near Novelty, arrived here for burial yesterday afternoon from Long Beach, Calif., where Mrs. Balthrope died December 28 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. S. Jacobs, who with her son, "Robbie," accompanied the corpse here. Mrs. Balthrope had been in failing health for some time and was compelled to give up her old home here a few years ago, since when she lived with her daughter, first in Kansas City and later in Long Beach, until her death. The body was placed in a vault there until its removal here for interment in the family lot at the Linville cemetery, where short services were held upon its arrival at 2 o'clock. Besides Mrs. Jacobs, at whose home she died, and Mr. Balthrope of Novelty, Mrs. Balthrope leaves two more sons, John Balthrope of Los Angeles, Calif., and Marshall P. Balthrope of Texas. One daughter, Miss Lula L. Balthrope, who taught school here a number of years ago, died here. A brother, F. Pierce, of Newark also survives. Before her marriage to Mr. Balthrope on May 20, 1868, Mrs. Balthrope was Miss Elizabeth Pierce, a daughter of Michael P. Pierce, and she was born and reared at Newark and was about 80 years old.
