Gerald Bowman

Woodward, Okla. — Gerald Bowman, 73 year old Mooreland resident, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 in Oklahoma City. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 11, 2013 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel of Woodward with Reverend Alan Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in Vassar Cemetery, west of Vici. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Woodward on Thursday from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Gerald Robert Bowman was born on June 3, 1940 on the family farm outside of Vici, Oklahoma to William Roy and Eva Annis (Shaw) Bowman. Gerald attended school in Vici and Arnett. During his early 20's Gerald enlisted in the United States Army and served his country before being Honorably Discharged. He then attended General Motors Automotive School in Oklahoma City. After graduation he worked for Pierson Chevrolet in Vici. In the early 1970's, he moved to Mooreland, where he owned and operated Bowman's Garage for the next thirty years. After his retirement in 2000, Gerald worked at Wal-Mart in several different departments, and was still employed there at the time of his death.

Gerald was very active in the Mooreland community, serving in several different capacities, including Mayor, and Emergency Manager. Gerald was also a Certified Ham Operator and former Radio D.J. He also loved playing the role of Santa for several years both in Mooreland and at Wal-Mart.

Gerald is survived by his wife Robin Bowman of the home; daughter, Tammy Bowman of Enid; son, Levi Bowman and wife Lelia of Columbia, South Carolina; step-son, Kevin Hanson and wife Miho of Camp Zama, Japan; step-daughter, Keri Beam and husband Greg of Oklahoma City; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Claretta Shaw of Dumas, Texas; Eva Seely of Plainview, Texas; Verla Watts of Vici; one brother, Mervin Bowman of Vici; several nieces, nephews other family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Glen Bowman, Wilmer Bowman, Orlin Bowman, and Vernon Bowman and three sisters, Dorene Bowman, Hazel McAlary and Francis Valescu.
