She grew up in Sullivan County, and graduated from Milan High School. She taught country schools at Morris and Fairview Schools.
In 1929 she and Earl Lewis were married. They were the parents of three children; Richard, Linda, and Sharon. Earl died in 1940. Gladys and the children moved from Kansas to Washington state. There she worked for the Washington State University in Pullman until her retirement in 1973. In 1951 she married Harry Erwin. They moved to Spokane in 1973. Harry died in August of 1993.
She was preceded in death by brothers Glenn and Wayne Moore, both of Washington state; a sister Edna Dillinger, Denver, Colo.; her parents in December of 1918, both of the Spanish Flu.
She is survived by her son Richard and Ann Lewis, Linda and Clayton Dunn, Sharon and Roger Malmquist; sister Bernice Lambert; seven grandsons; six great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly.
Interment was at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
