John S. Bell of Van Buren died Monday, February 7, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was born February 24, 1913, in Crawford County. He was a member of the Kibler United Methodist Church a World War II veteran and an educator. He attended Arkansas Tech University, Arkansas State Teachers College where he earned a bachelors of education degree; and the University of Arkansas where he obtained a masters of education degree. He taught at Post Oak and 55 School, served as principal and teacher for the Kibler School System, and as principal and sixth-grade teacher at Sophia Myer Elementary. He worked for the Army and served at Fort Chaffee as an education officer and was director of education at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, where he served for 20 years and upon retirement was presented with the Department of the Air Force Civilian Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding services rendered. He was the widower of Clarine Bell.

Funeral was held at 2 p.m. at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren, with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.

He is survived by his three daughters, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
