Mae Burrell Byars CHESTER - Mrs. Mae Burrell Byars, 87, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Parkway Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jay Dorsey, Michael Shaffer and Kenny Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the sanctuary of Parkway Baptist Church, and other times at the home of her son, Jimmy at 984 Pine Ridge Road, Chester, S.C. Mrs. Byars was born May 6, 1926, in Great Falls, S.C., and was a daughter of the late Fred Burrell and Auggie Campbell Burrell. She was a graduate of Chester High School and was retired from Springs Industries. Mrs. Byars was a charter member of Parkway Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and director of the nursery for over 12 years. She was the widow of Joe Byars. She is survived by two sons, James M. "Jimmy" Byars and wife, Dinah and Thomas W. "Tom" Byars and wife, Jan, both of Chester; two grandchildren, Chad Byars and wife, Kim and Elizabeth B. Duncan and husband, Chad, both of Chester; two great-grandchildren, Meredith Byars and Addison Duncan, both of Chester; three brothers, Percy Burrell of Boiling Springs, S.C., Fred Burrell of Malani, Hawaii, and Gentry Burrell of Chester; six sisters, Miriam Crisco of Mooresville, N.C., Ruth Foster of Midland, N.C., Aileen Brown of West Columbia, S.C., Janelle Reiter of Taylors, S.C., Sara Loving of Chester, S.C., and Bobbie Barnes of Lancaster, S.C.; and her "bestest" friend, Cricket Jones. Mrs. Byars was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorries Sue Byars; one sister, Mamie Canupp; and three brothers, Angus Burrell, H.B. Burrell and Carlos Burrell.
