Roderick F "Rod" Weisert, MD, 57, of Corbin, KY, formerly of Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY, died April 6, 2006, at Oak Tree Hospital at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Whitley Co., KY, after a long and courageous battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Dr. Weisert was a 1967 graduate of Saint Xavier High School, a 1971 graduate of Johns Hopkins University where he was a member of Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity, and a 1975 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Dr. Weisert completed his internship and residency in general surgery at UK in 1980. While at UK he was named Chief Resident of Surgery. Dr. Weisert practiced general surgery in Corbin, KY, from 1980 to 2002. He was Chief of Surgery at Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin, KY, and Dr. Weisert was highly respected and regarded in the medical field. He was beloved by his patients. He was a member of many medical societies, and the alumni clubs of St. X , Johns Hopkins, and UK. Dr. Weisert volunteered many years in the first aid rooms of Commonwealth Stadium and Rupp Arena for games and concerts. Upon his death, he bequeathed an endowment to UK. He is survived by his wife, Tammye Weisert; his children, Kieren Weisert, Kelsee Brown, and Keith Brown; his parents, Merton and Carolyn Weisert; his two sisters, Merleta Weisert (Ralph Dott) and Lisa Weisert; his close friends, Jim and Jan Graham, Drs. Dick Cramer and Charlotte Haney, Charlie and Joyce Phillips, Dr. Ross and Mary Halbleib, Mitch and Reida Stallsmith, Mrs. Marie Anderson, and a host of other friends.

Dr. Weisert chose cremation.

Funeral: 12 noon on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Corbin, Knox Co., KY
