Josiah Butterfield, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of the Pajaro Valley, died last Friday, March 3d, of pneumonia, aged 76 years. Mr. Butterfield was a native of Vermont, but since 1853, has resided in this section.

He was one of the oldest Masons in the state, and at the time of his death, was a member of Texas Lodge, San Juan, which Lodge in connection with Pajaro Lodge at this place, conducted the funeral ceremonies.

The deceased leaves a wife and several grown up children, who are all highly respected, and who receive the true sympathy of the public, in the loss of a good husband and father.

Josiah Butterfield, president of the 7th Quorum of Seventies, in the days of the martyr [Joseph Smith, Jr.], and president of the Watsonville branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, at the time of his death, aged 76 years.
