WILLIE MITCHELL ''RED'' HAMERSLEY, 92, died Jan. 13, 2001, of kidney cancer at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Visitation was held Wednesday at Kehl's Forest Long Mortuary. Burial with full military honors will take place at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Mr. Hamersley was born Sept. 23, 1908, in Bromide, Okla. He came to Alaska in 1951 and resided in Anchorage. Mr. Hamersley was retired from the Alaska Railroad, where he had worked 25 years as a crane operator. After retirement, he spent many years as a commercial fisherman. His family wrote: ''Red loved growing things in his garden and playing pinochle. ''Red will be missed terribly. He has touched many lives and told many stories.'' Mr. Hamersley is survived by his wife, Nora Hamersley; son, Joe Hamersley; daughter, Christine Hamersley; granddaughters, Jamie Dan and Heidi Hunter; grandsons, Ethan Kuzma and Bryan Hamersley; great-granddaughter, Kayle Dan; brother and sisters, Wayne Hamersley, Ellen Speth and Mary Brake. Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
