Obituary

Thedore Wiss was born in Switzerland Sept. 23rd 1854, and departed this life Oct. 24th 1918 at the age of 64 years one month and one day. He was the eldest son of John and Mary Ann Wiss. At the age of six weeks he came with his parents to America and settled in the state of Illinois. At the age of 16 he with his parents emigrated to Kansas and settled in Jefferson county where he grew to manhood and on the 25th day of March 1877 he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Woods of the same county. To this union were born five children all of whom with their devoted mother still survive him. J. G. of Westline Mo., William of K. C. Mo., W. F. and Lizzie of Mulhall and Alva now with the colors at Houston Tex. In the year 1880 Mr. Wiss and family moved to K. C. Mo. where they lived for a period of 21 years. In 1901 he and family moved to Oklahoma and settled on a farm seven miles southeast of Mulhall where he lived for 7 years and where he departed this life. Mr. Wiss was a quiet and peace loving man and his kind and genial disposition won him many friends. His demise came as it were without warning having spent the day in his usual manner and apparently in his usual health when about seven o'clock in the evening of Oct. 24th he was suddenly stricken with concussion of the brain while in the active duties of life and succumbed immediately. Thus it is once more proven that even "in the midst of life we are in death". Mr. Wiss never identified himself with any church but he was a firm believer in God. Thus while we are called to mourn we mourn not as others which have no hope. Let us all unite in saying "not my will but thine oh God be done".
