TIGARD, March 30 (Special) Richard Johnston, 7, son of Mrs. Mary Johnston, Portland was drowned Saturday afternoon when a raft capsized on a small pond on the George Anderson farm, route No. 1, Tigard.
Young Johnston, who had made his home with the Andersons for three years, and Keith Flye, 8, of Tigard, were aboard the raft when it pitched the former into the water.
Keith clung to the raft and, after getting it ashore, summoned George Anderson and Victor Johnson from the farmhouse. The recovered the body 30 minutes later.
Effort by the Tualatin Valley first aid car and the Portland fire department filed to revive the boy. Dr. C. E. Mason of Beaverton pronounced him dead at 4 P.m.
